Always trust your intuition and make sure your health care providers are listening. You know your loved one better than anyone else.
If you can’t get your doctor or nurse to listen and act on your concerns, then contact the hospital’s patient advocate. Many hospitals now have them, and they are vital to patient safety. If one isn’t handy, ask for the charge nurse, the hospital administrator, or anyone in Risk Management.
Over and over again, loved ones who have lost someone to medical error relate that they knew something was wrong, but they weren’t listened to or being taken seriously.
Don’t let this happen to you.
